OPCD Board of Directors Votes to Make Karl Fasold Permanent Executive Director

(Wednesday, December 13, 2023, New Orleans, LA) –   At its quarterly scheduled meeting, members of the Orleans Parish Communication District (OPCD) Board of Directors voted to make Karl Fasold, the permanent Executive Director. Fasold had been acting as interim executive director since stepping into the role in July of 2023. Previously, he was Director of Technology at OPCD.

“Congratulations to Director Fasold on his appointment to lead the Orleans Parish Communication District,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. ” Serving in OPCD for nearly 20 years, Karl helped to rebuild our 9-1-1 system after Hurricane Katrina and has been invaluable to the City and its public safety team. He has also been recognized by the National Emergency Number Association, as well as by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO) International as the Information Technologist of the Year in 2008. I am grateful to Karl for lending his time and talent to our city and for leading the entire, dedicated staff of OPCD for keeping our residents and visitors safe.”

“Yesterday, the board voted to make Karl Fasold the permanent director of OPCD. He was chosen as the interim director and over the last five months, has done an excellent job and as such, the board determined it was in the best interest of OPCD to appoint Karl as the permanent director. As the board chair, I fully support the board’s unanimous decision to make Karl the permanent director,” said Board Chairman John Thomas.

“I am grateful to the board for their continued confidence in my abilities to lead the agency,” said Fasold. “I appreciate the almost daily assistance each and every board member has provided me as Interim Executive Director, as well as that from the Mayor, City Administration, and City Council Members. Most of all, I want to thank all OPCD staff for their continuing efforts to provide the best service possible to our customers: the citizens and visitors to our great City and our public safety partners.”
